Gripex

How Gripex works

Gripex is a complex drug containing substances such as dextromethorphan, pseudoephedrine and paracetamol. They differ in place and mode of action. Paracetamol is antipyretic and analgesic. It inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) in the brain and spinal cord, which is responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Paracetamol does not affect blood coagulation, platelet aggregation or gastric mucosa.

Dextromethorphan has an antitussive effect, acting on the cough centre, which is located in the prolonged core, while pseudoephridine affects vasoconstriction, reduces congestion or swelling of the mucous membrane in the nose, and thus makes the nose clear.

The substances contained in Gripex are quickly absorbed and the concentration of paracetamol in the blood is present within one hour of taking it. Pseudoephedrine starts working in 30 minutes (up to 4 hours). Dextromethorphan is also activated for up to half an hour and works for up to 4 hours. These substances penetrate into the breastfeeding women's milk. The drug Gripex can be purchased without a prescription at the pharmacy. It is used as an analgesic, for fever and cough.
