How does it work and what does it have in the composition of Etopyrin?
Etopyrin contains many ingredients, including salicylates, etenzamide, caffeine and acetylsalic acid. Acetylsalicylic acid is one of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory preparations. Like many NSAIDs, it is anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic. It also slows down platelet aggregation. The most important feature of this acid is the inhibition of the dynamism of cyclooxygenases and enzymes that are active during the synthesis of prostaglandins and thromboxane from lipids of cell membranes. Prostaglandins play an important role in the development of inflammation, while thromboxane stimulates platelet aggregation and vascular contractions (may cause clots or blockages). The analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug is intended to stop the growth of prostaglandin synthesis, and its antigragregative effect will be taken care of by inhibiting the synthesis of thromboxane.
If small amounts of acetylsalicylic acid are used, it can stop platelet activity. Then the synthesis of thromboxane also stops and reduces the possibility of platelet aggregation and stops the thromboxane-dependent vasoconstriction. The dynamism of COX-1 is stopped by acetylsalicylic acid and cannot be reversed. The acid remains for the whole life of the platelet, i.e. about 9 days. The effect of the anti-inflammatory and analgesic drug depends on stopping activity caused by inflammatory state COX-2 needs to take higher doses of acetylsalicylic acid (usually 2-6g per 24h). Etenzamide is also an important component of Etopyrin. It belongs to the derivatives of salicylic acid, it has an analgesic effect in pains in inflammatory states. The last ingredient, caffeine, makes the analgesic effect of salicylates stronger, it also stimulates our nervous system.
